This is a great place to get unique Indonesian groceries and pick up some fresh meals to eat on the tables outside or take home. If you're lucky you'll meet the grandma the inspiration for the lady in the carton ( just say halo ) I like the kind words I hear her and those who visit here say . The tea sold here is perhaps some of the largest loose leaf tea of the finest quality available in the US packaged in completely biodegradable paper and I would recommend purchasing the coconut sugar vs the palm sugar here as it is more sustainable and from earth friendly renewable resources if one desires a vegan sweetener that can also be used when baking ... it's sold at an extremely affordable price.!

I'm back with another edition of "Mall Rat Eatz" in this edition I visited a nice little store front called "Medan Kitchen". Located in a bustling strip mall in Rosemead. So I was at my cousins house and we decided today to have lunch at this place. I don't usually get to eat Indonesian food so it was a delight. Inside they have a lot of Indonesian goodies for you to choose from! Snacks to meals and drinks to even some medicinal items! For today I got the Nasi Uduk Komplit! Coconut steamed rice, Beef Rendang, Spicy Boiled Egg, Sambal Belacon, Fried Chicken, Tofu Tempeh w/green chili and spicy potato w/anchovy & peanut. I also got a Teh Kotak and an iced green tea (not pictured) to wash it down with. First off I liked the look of the meal it was nicely packaged and it was aesthetically pleasing to my eyes. Something about uniformity and placement in food makes it look more appealing. There were even food wrapped in leaves there too! Next time I'll try one of them haha I think my cousin got krawu which looked really good and really filling! So I started off with the spicy potato w/anchovy. It had a nice crunch and soft taste. Not too spicy and not too sweet it was just right. It paired well to me with the rice haha. I had the fried chicken next and it wasn't too bad it was ok but I will say this! It had flavor! Next I paired my chicken with the sambal and oooof I loved it! The sambal was just bomb of flavor! I put the with the egg and the beef rendang and man oh man! Flavor nuke in my mouth! I I should have warmed up the food but I went straight for it haha. I think overall it was great! The flavors and spices on the food was such a great mix! Not pictured here also are the snacks I got haha. I bought the garlic rotary rice cakes, salteecheeese crackers and my cousin suggested I buy the ABC original hot sauce! The service was great too! The cashier was nice and helpful towards me because it was my first time there and he even suggested that next time I get one of their fan favorites! The nasi something something lol I forgot. My experience was great and I definitely will come back here when I want Indonesian food! 5/5 stars for me!! Thank you guys!

I was craving for kaya toast but could not find the spread for sale near me. I was in SGV and went to Medan Kitchen. They have so much food and snacks for sale! The store was neatly organized and everything has a label to identify the food for sale. I finally got my kaya toast fix!

Authentic Indonesian food. A best kept secret! They have a variety of dishes and deserts to chose from, including a lot of snacks. They have friendly service. It's not really a restaurant, but looks more of a to-go place/market for great Indonesian products. A word of advise, go there early as some dishes sell out. They will all be on tables on display and open to grab. You check out with the cashier at the end.

Medan Kitchen is the only place I'm aware of in SGV and even all of Los Angeles that comes close to authentic Indonesian food. I've only been to Bali once but this place has all the popular Indonesian dishes that I loved eating in Bali. I kinda get myself in trouble and over buy desserts and entrees when I come here because everything looks so good and it's so easy to just grab and place in the basket because it's all ready to go! My go to here is the Nasi Bungkus, you can order it at the cashier and they pack it up quickly in the back for you. Always delicious and the portion is a lot, 1 order is 2 meals for me.

Found this place through Instagram. This place is a grocery store that sells take out food as well. They have a rotating menu so be sure to check out their Instagram account to see what they're selling that day. I like that there's pictures and descriptions so you can get an idea of what they have that day. Some of the food can be spicy so definitely check out the ingredients in what you're getting if you can't handle any heat. Love that it's got a variety of prepped meals, small dishes, appetizer items, desserts and sometimes drinks. This is one of my go to lunch spots.

Very delicious and authentic Indonesian takeout and market. The flavors of my childhood are represented in their dishes. It reminds me of so many of my favorite dishes that my Indonesian grandmother would cook for me growing up. I especially love the Nasi Bungkus (rice with different meats, veggies and sauces), Soto Ayam (chicken soup), bubur ayam (porridge with chicken), and honestly so many other dishes here! Also you should try lempers, croquettes, rempeyek kacang (like a savory peanut brittle). Too many things I love here to list them all!!

Keep in mind that this is foremost a market and the meals you will pick up here are more like togo lunch boxes. The workers are pleasant and helpful despite how busy they were. There's a few seats outside that is meant for lunch rush to eat and go, thus the turnover is pretty quick. I tried the Nasi Uduk Complit and a chicken fried noodle type dish that I didn't get the name of. I like the strong flavors of the beef rendang and the boiled egg. The fried chicken has a lemongrass? flavor to it that I quite enjoy. Too bad that and the tofu tempeh wasn't as strong of a flavor as the other parts of the dish, but overall it was still good. Be careful of the sambal and chili because it really packs a punch. Highlight of the meal was the pouch of anchovy and peanut. I could eat that as snack or with a whole bowl of rice. The chicken fried noodle was okay. The soup came with 2 meatballs in there and the crunchy chips added a nice texture to the noodles.
